The Ku Klux Klan is a still existing terrorist organization, who's main goal is restoring white supremacy in the United States of America, by their obvious slogan "white power". Their key tactic is hatred and violence. The Ku Klux Klan was born in the small town of Pulaski, Tennessee on one june night in 1866, formed by six high ranking confederate officials in a law office of one of the confederate lawyers. The Klan was originally designed to be a social fraternity, and or a social club for white brotherhood. The first of their members consisted of people with the same opinions and views on the civil war and reconstruction. The founding members of the KKK, were college educated men, who knew their greek and latin, and formed the name of their klan from the greek word Ku Klux, which means circle of unity, and added the word klan. The political views of the first and original Ku Klux Klan were democrat, this political party of the ninteenth century, was far different from the democartic party of today, most southern democrats were often referred to as "dixiecrats" for their racist and unethical political views on the reconstruction process and their still somewhat loyalty to the confederacy. The Klan started off with just a social club meeting at night every once in a while. As free liquor started to become a big part of their fraternity meetings at night, the heated and frustrated members of the klan began to conspire to terrorize those who they held resentment against, among these included freed African slaves, and white republicans. White republicans were often referred to in the nineteenth century as radicals who supported the civil rights of newly freed African citizens in America, and held a majority of the wealth at that time, and wanted to inflict harsher punishments upon southern democrats, since most southern democrats previously served in the Confederate congress. The Klan's conspiracy to commit violence against the freed blacks and white radicals, turned into actual violence. Being a intelligent group of criminals, members of the Klan decided that all public appearences and terrorist attacks were to be organized and made at night and always in disguise. To form their own unique look the Klan used sheets and pillowcases as whole garments and hoods, which later as they became more organized turned into robes with an emblem imprinted and pointed hats and pointed hoods with only the eyes cut out. These acts of actual violence were night rides on horseback, these night rides were brutally violent and resulted in many casualties, and persons serverly hurt. Ku Klux Klan members would at night invade homes dragging out individuals or sometimes more than one, and beating them near to death, burnings, or tar and feathering were some other favorite methods of the Klan's violent nightime attacks. With the passing of acts such as the Ku Klux Klan act, that was passed by congress in 1871, to put an end to the Klans unlawful terrorist attacks. The Klan began to slow up on most of their violence, but never stopped riding threw the countryside at night, threw rural areas to scare local blacks. These methods of terrorism is what dixiecrats would use to scare blacks and radical whites away from the voting polls, doing this would keep those in office who also believed in restoring white supremacy and supporting the Ku Klux Klan.
The 1920's was a exciting time in American history, women had just gained the right to vote and Prohitbition had just kicked in, and everything was going great, The American people were celebrating victory in a War, a war that they felt was fought for the cause of equality, democracy and freedom. Although the United States of America proclaimed to have represented a liberal society, within the borders of this "free" country was a very large population of racial hatred about to reach its boiling point.

The Ku Klux Klan didnt get much press coverage over the years since its beginnings , until about 20 years or so into the twentieth century. In 1916 on thanksgiving eve, a failed methodist clergyman named William Joseph Simmons united a group of over 100 Klansmen on top of Stone Mountain in Georgia, Simmons there crowned himself as the new Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Simmons had now established a more larger oraganization, bigger than the one that started in 1866, the membership of the Ku Klux Klan was no longer just a fraternity of brotherhood, but now in the 1920's all anglo-saxon american born protestants were allowed to join women, and children also. Now in the 1920's instead of having secret meetings, The Ku Klux Klan was now having big Klan rallies. At these Klan rallies , each member was able to express their hatred in an exercise of their first Amendment right. The Klans target of hatred now started being aimied at more than just blacks. Now the Ku klux Klan formed a internationally known hatred for jews, catholics, communist, and communist party supporters, as well as foreigners. The Klan stuck to their slogan "white power" and their motto "restoring white supremacy in America, and perserving it for the white man". In the 20's the Klan's violence was worse than that of the violence of the early Klan, lynchings became more frequent. Lynching for the Klan was what made them popular in the 20's. In the 1920s the Klan had a standing membership of three million, Among these included many politicians, local, state and national, movie stars, movie producers, and even some musical recording artist. In the 1920's movies were released that showed much racial hatred that was endorsed by the Klan, the Ku Klux Klan even had the support of President Wilson in the 20s. The Klan became more famous in America, Most southern lawyers, Doctors and Businessmen, who were prejudice, were more than likely members of the ku Klux Klan in the 1920's. The Klan began publishing themselves more with posters, and signs on the side of rodes, and with songs that played on the radio of white radio stations. Klan leader imperial wizard simmons, also was responsible for associating religion with the organization, He declared that the Klan was doing the will of God by restoring by supremacy in America, and anglo-saxons were the light of the world. This introduced the Klans most notable trademark, the burning of the cross, which over the years became more increasingly popular. The religious views of the Klan were that every race was inferior to the white race in the eye of God. On August 8th, 1925, The Ku Klux Klan, marched in the nations capital, Washington D.C, straight down Pennsylvania ave, pass the White House, and saluted the President, and straight pass the capitol building. This march was 200,000 people strong men, women and children. In 1928, the Ku Klux Klan held another march in the nations capital followed by a rally, at which this time women and their children were at the head of the parade, and the men, proclaiming themselves as the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. After many hangings and massacres, that reached internationally public and were blamed on the Klan, the critics were really nailing the Klan in places like New York, and Chicago. Due to really bad press, and the arrest and exposal of several political leaders involved with the Klan, the Klans membership started to decline during President Roosevelts term during the 30's, the Klan dwindled from a three million membership status, to a 500,000 member status.
